COS Sports Notes: Week of April 6, 2026
Women's tennis opens NorCal playoffs at home, softball eyes conference title, and baseball, track, and swimming continue key competitions across a busy week for the Giants.
College of the Sequoias' baseball, softball and women's tennis teams are at home Tuesday, with the women's team beginning the Northern California playoffs.
Women's & Men's Tennis
The COS women, seeded third in the playoff bracket, host No. 6 seed City College of San Francisco at 1 o'clock on the COS courts.
Sequoias won its second consecutive conference championship and is 10-2 overall, while San Francisco won the Coast Conference title and is 10-1 for the season.
The winner will face the winner of the American River-Chabot match next week. ARC defeated COS in the NorCal finals a year ago.
Meanwhile, the Giant men's team was seeded No. 7 and plays Tuesday at No. 2 seed Foothill College in a first round playoff match. Sequoias was second in the conference and overall is 10-4. Chabot is 6-3.
Softball
Closing in on a conference championship, the COS softball team hosts Reedley in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
The Giants lead the conference with a 10-1 record, with seven games remaining. COS is 24-6-1 overall, and has won nine in a row.
The Reedley games will be their only action this week.
In the latest state poll, Sequoias remained ranked No. 5 in the state, and is No. 3 in Northern California.
Baseball
The Giant baseball team steps back into conference play this week with a three-game series against Merced.
Tuesday's game is at 2 o'clock. Because of impending inclement weather, Wednesday the teams will play in Merced, and return to Visalia Thursday for another 2 p.m. game.
COS ran into a buzz saw last week, with its nine game winning streak snapped as Santa Rosa swept a three-game series.
Sequoias is 16-15 for the year, matching last year's win total, with nine games remaining. In conference play the Giants are 10-5. Merced is 12-19 overall and 8-7 in the conference.
In other schedule changes, next week COS will host Taft on Monday and league-leading Fresno on Tuesday, both at 2 p.m. The games were originally Tuesday and Thursday.
Swim & Dive
The swimming conference championship meet begins April 16. Saturday, the divers will compete in the NorCal diving championships at Las Positas College in Livermore.
COS' Reannon Herrera will be one of the favorites in the women's events. The Giant men will be represented by Scott Dutcher, Jacob Hernandez and Luke Gonzalez.
Track & Field
The track teams will compete in the NorCal multi events meet at Hartnell College Tuesday and Wednesday.
