College of the Sequoias' Athletic Director Wins NACDA's Athletic Director of the Year
College of the Sequoias Dean/Athletic Director Brent Davis has been named the National Athletic Director of the Year in the Junior / Community College Division, by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Davis, now his 13th year at COS, will be honored at the NACDA's annual convention in Las Vegas on June 9.
"Brent has worked extremely hard over the past 13 years to give COS an elite athletic program across the board," said college Superintendent/President Brent Calvin. "We are thrilled that he has been recognized as a 'Giant' in his field'."
Davis was hired in July of 2013 to lead the COS program. The Giant athletic department features 18 sports, nearly 600 student-athletes, and 70+ coaches, staff and faculty members.
He is not only in charge of the athletic program, but is Dean of the physical education, kinesiology, dance, public health, recreation, and sports medicine departments.
Davis has also overseen many improvements to the school's athletic facilities, including twin video boards and special effects lighting in the Porter Field House, construction of a new baseball clubhouse, in addition to a new volleyball team room inside the fieldhouse.
He was also one of the driving forces in the construction of the 3,500-seat Sequoias Stadium, built in 2023, the on-campus home of Giant football, soccer and track teams.
Davis is a Visalia native. He graduated from Redwood High School and attended COS, playing basketball before transferring to San Diego State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He earned a master's degree from Azusa Pacific University.
His background includes coaching and teaching at San Diego Mesa College, one season as the head men's basketball coach at Bakersfield College, and prior to coming to COS, seven years as the lead assistant basketball coach at San Jose State University.
