COS Sports Notes: Week of November 17, 2025
From bowl-bound football to playoff-bound volleyball and women's soccer, and state meet appearances in cross country, College of the Sequoias Athletics is making waves this November across nearly every fall sport.
It's an action-packed November for College of the Sequoias Athletics, as nearly every fall sport is either gearing up for or already competing in postseason play. With teams peaking at the right time, the Giants are showing strength across the board—from the court to the field to the trail.
FOOTBALL
College of the Sequoias is in a post-season football game for the sixth year in a row.
The Giants (7-3) will host Foothill College (5-5) of Los Altos Hills, Saturday at noon at Sequoias Stadium in the Pepsi-Sequoia Bowl.
COS started the season 7-1 before dropping its last two games. Sequoias is ranked 15th in the state and seventh in Northern California, while Foothill is ranked 21st in the state and 10th in NorCal.
This is the sixth consecutive season the Giants have appeared in a post-season game.
VOLLEYBALL
The Giant volleyball team ended its regular season 23-9, with a three match winning streak, and 6-2 in conference matches.
Sequoias was seeded seventh out of 20 teams, and will host a second round playoff match Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., against no. 10 seeded Hartnell (18-12).
The winner will advance to the regional finals November 29, with a likely match at no. 2 seeded and conference champion Taft (28-2).
SOCCER
The COS women qualified for the state playoffs and will have a first round match Wednesday.
Sequoias, the #24 seed, will play at No. 9 seeded Evergreen Valley College (14-6-1) in San Jose.
COS was 10-8-3 overall.
The Giant men's team finished with a season record of 3-11-7, and a conference mark of 1-6-3, and did not qualify for the playoffs.
CROSS COUNTRY
COS will compete in the state championship meet Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno, a course the Giants have already run twice—for the Central Valley Conference meet and the NorCal meet.
The Giant women placed third at the NorCal meet while the men's team was ninth.
BASKETBALL
The COS men won their only game last week to improve to 3-1, their third consecutive victory.
This week Sequoias will play two games in the Milt Stowe Classic at Porterville, facing LA Southwest on Friday and Bakersfield Saturday.
In the men's pre-season poll, the Giants are ranked third in the state and No. 2 in Northern California behind defending state champion San Francisco.
After an 0-3 start, the COS women defeated Cuesta last week to even their record at 3-3.
Sequoias is off for two more weeks before hosting Sacramento December 1. The Giants will also host the 48th annual Tom Gilcrest tournament December 4-6.
In the pre-season women's poll, COS is ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 1 in Northern California
