COS Sports Notes: Week of October 27, 2025
College of the Sequoias men's and women's basketball tip off their 2025-26 campaigns, volleyball and football chase conference titles, and soccer continues its postseason playoff push—all in a jam-packed week of Giants Athletics action.
From packed gymnasiums to high-stakes showdowns on the field, College of the Sequoias Athletics enters the final days of October with momentum, excitement, and postseason aspirations across several sports.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
College of the Sequoias' men's basketball team will open the season at home as the No. 3 ranked team in the state, hosting the No. 2 ranked team, Fullerton College, Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Porter Fieldhouse.
Coach Dallas Jensen, back for his seventh season, directed the Giants to a fifth consecutive Central Valley Conference championship (13-1) last year and a 24-5 overall record.
Cameron Kelly, a 6-7 forward who earned honorable mention all-conference honors, is the top returnee.
Defending state runner-up Fullerton was 30-4 last year, losing in the finals to San Francisco, and the Hornets are again expected to be a strong team.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Giant women will open their season this weekend in the Mt. San Antonio Tip-Off classic.
COS will face Orange Coast Friday, Moorpark Saturday and Mt. San Antonio on Sunday. Sequoias won its first 31 games last year before losing to Mt. SAC 57-50 in the state semifinals.
All-conference forward Kaitlin Giacone and second team all-conference choice Olivia Gill are the top returnees for coach Tyler Newton's Giants.
First COS home game will be November 11 against Cuesta.
SOCCER
The COS women's soccer team has two home matches scheduled this week as they work towards qualifying for the post-season playoffs.
COS will host Clovis Community College Friday at 3 p.m. at Sequoias Stadium.
After tying Reedley Tuesday, the Giants are 5-4-2 in conference matches and 6-7-3 for the season.
The Giant men had a non-conference match at American River Tuesday, and will be at Clovis Friday.
The men have struggled to date, 0-4-1 in conference play and 2-8-5 overall.
FOOTBALL
The Giants won their sixth game in a row last weekend, beating Reedley 25-18 in overtime to improve to 7-1. The winning streak equals the longest since 1991, and the seven season victories is the most by a COS team since 2006.
Sequoias plays at Fresno City College Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ratcliffe Stadium, and will be trying to break a 13-game losing streak against the Rams.
In the latest JC Athletic Bureau state rankings, COS is No. 10 in the state and fourth in Northern California. FCC (4-4) is ranked 16th in the state and seventh in NorCal.
VOLLEYBALL
The volleyball team will have two home matches this week, hosting Reedley Wednesday and Coalinga College Friday. Both will begin at 6 p.m. at the Porter Field House.
COS is 19-7 for the season, and 3-1 in conference matches.
The latest state rankings have Sequoias as 18th in the state and No. 7 in NorCal.
CROSS COUNTRY
COS will run in the CVC meet Wednesday at Fresno's Woodward Park.
Both the men and women's teams finished second in the CVC meet last year to Clovis, and are again expected to challenge for the conference title.
