COS Sports Notes: Week of October 6, 2025
COS hosts a full day of soccer Friday at Sequoias Stadium, football opens Valley Conference play on the road, and volleyball and cross country continue strong fall campaigns.
College of the Sequoias Athletics is entering another action-packed weekend as multiple fall teams continue to make strides. From a soccer doubleheader at Sequoias Stadium to the start of football conference play and volleyball's midseason grind, the Giants are competing hard across every field and court.
Soccer
College of the Sequoias will host a soccer doubleheader Friday at Sequoias Stadium.
The COS women will play Porterville College at noon, followed by the COS men opposing Merced at 3 o'clock.
Going into the week, the Giant women were 3-6-1 overall and 2-3 in conference play. They hosted Madera on Tuesday.
The Sequoias men were 2-5-4 going into their Tuesday match at Lemoore. They are 0-1 in conference play.
Football
The Giant football team will open Valley Conference play Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at Sacramento City College.
COS, 4-1 overall, has won three in a row and is currently ranked 12th in the state and fifth in Northern California.
Sacramento, traditionally a tough opponent for the Giants, is 3-2 overall, tied for 21st in the state and ranked 10th in NorCal.
Sequoias will host Monterey Peninsula next week.
Volleyball
The Giant volleyball team has just one match scheduled this week, Wednesday at Porterville.
COS is 15-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Sequoias is currently ranked 23rd in the state and seventh in NorCal.
Cross Country
No action scheduled for the cross country teams this week.
At last week's Pomona Pitzer invitational meet, competing against mostly four-year schools, the COS men's team placed 13th out of 20 teams and the women were 15th out of 19.
Julian Valdivia was the top placer for the Sequoias men, finishing 37th in a field of 223 runners. For the women, Giada Ortega finished 83rd in a field of 222.
Next week COS will run in the prestigious Mt. San Antonio Invitational meet.
