Sequoias six-match winning streak was snapped by Taft on Wednesday.
The Cougars got off to a quick start in the first set, winning 25-22. The Giants battled with Taft in the second and third set, capturing both 25-23 and 26-24.
Taft mounted a 25-19 fourth set comeback and captured the final fifth set 15-9.
With the 3-2 defeat, COS falls to 10-6 on the season and 8-4 in conference.
COS hosts Fresno City on Friday at 6 p.m. inside Porter Field House. The Rams are currently atop the Central Valley Conference at a perfect 11-0.
