Avalos, Laird, and Rodriguez Power COS Women’s Soccer to 4-0 Road Victory at Lemoore
LEMOORE, Calif. – College of the Sequoias Women's Soccer put together a complete performance on Tuesday afternoon, taking a 4-0 win over Lemoore on the road to capture its third straight Central Valley Conference victory.
The Giants (6-6-1, 5-3 CVC) wasted no time getting on the board, as sophomore Brittany Avalos (Tulare Western HS) buried a shot in the 14th minute off a setup from Nevaeh Diaz (Mt. Whitney HS). Just four minutes later, freshman Jaya Laird (Hanford HS) doubled the lead with a composed finish from a feed by Ariss Ramirez (Clovis West HS).
Sequoias continued to control the tempo in the second half, adding two more goals down the stretch. Ashley Rodríguez (Porterville HS) scored in the 79th minute after another assist from Ramirez, and Avalos struck again in the 88th minute—this time with Laird providing the setup—to seal the 4-0 result.
"We played with urgency and poise today," said COS Head Coach Brooklyn Morris. "From front to back, we stayed disciplined and took advantage of the opportunities we created. The girls brought great energy, and we did a good job staying composed, while setting the tempo in the midfield."
Sophomore goalkeeper Haylie Brasil (Manteca HS) recorded 11 saves to notch her fourth shutout of the season, supported by a stout backline featuring Morgan Escobar (Tulare Western HS), Gracie Romero (Mission Oak HS), and Alyssa Hughes (Hanford West HS).
