Balanced Attack Propels Giants Women's Soccer to Back-to-Back Shutout Wins
VISALIA, Calif. – College of the Sequoias women's soccer is starting to hit its stride in the Central Valley Conference, posting back-to-back shutout wins at home last week with a 5-0 rout of Madera on Tuesday followed by a 7-0 victory over Porterville on Friday at Sequoias Stadium.
With the two results, the Giants improved to 5-6-1 overall and 4-3 in CVC play, climbing in the conference standings while extending their home win streak to three games.
COS 5, Madera 0 (October 7 – Visalia, CA)
After a scoreless first half, the Giants exploded for five goals in the second half, overwhelming the visiting Mountain Lions with a relentless second-half attack.
Brittany Avalos (Tulare Western HS) opened the scoring in the 52nd minute with an unassisted goal, setting the tone for the Giants' offensive surge. Kaitlin Siebuhr (Golden West HS) then delivered a pair of goals in the 65th and 90th minutes—both assisted by Ariss Ramirez (Clovis West HS).
Additional goals came from Gabby Hempton (Hanford HS) and Ramirez, who finished with a goal and two assists.
Goalkeepers Haylie Brasil (Manteca HS) and Madison Lujan (Hanford HS) split time in net, combining for 10 saves to secure the clean sheet.
"We emphasized composure and spacing at halftime, and the group really responded," said Head Coach Brooklyn Morris. "That second half showed what we're capable of when we play with confidence and convert."
College of the Sequoias 7, Porterville 0 (October 10 – Visalia, CA)
College of the Sequoias closed out its homestand by overpowering Porterville College 7-0 behind early goals and a relentless team effort on both ends of the field.
The Giants wasted no time grabbing control, scoring three goals in the first three minutes. Kaitlin Siebuhr (Golden West HS) opened with a goal, just seconds into the match with a composed finish to make it 1-0. Moments later, Ariss Ramirez (Clovis West HS) doubled the lead with a strike in the 2nd minute, then quickly added her second of the day (4th of the season) in the 13th to give the Giants a commanding 3-0 advantage.
Before halftime, Morgan Escobar (Tulare Western HS) joined the scoring in the 43rd minute, notching her first goal of the season and sending the Giants into the break up 4-0.
Sequoias kept its foot on the gas in the second half. Jaya Laird (Hanford HS) scored a quick pair in the 47th and 58th minutes (4th of the season) to extend the lead to six, before Siebuhr capped the scoring with her second goal of the day, and her 3rd goal of the season, in the 70th minute.
The Giants defense turned in another clean sheet, with goalkeepers Haylie Brasil (Manteca HS) and Madison Lujan (Hanford HS) splitting time and kept the Pirates off the scoreboard.
Upcoming Matches
College of the Sequoias will now hit the road for two consecutive conference matches. The Giants travel to Lemoore on Tuesday, October 14 at 4:00 p.m., followed by a trip to Fresno on Tuesday, October 21 at 4:00 p.m. They'll return home on Friday, October 24, to host Merced at 1:00 p.m.
