College of the Sequoias Sweeps CVC Track & Field Championships
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – College of the Sequoias track and field swept both team titles at the 2026 Central Valley Conference Championships. The COS women scored 245 points to win the conference, while the men totaled 303.5 points to secure the championship.
Women's Performances
College of the Sequoias women controlled the meet with strong performances across every event, highlighted by multiple event titles and podium finishes.
In the sprints, Ashlyn Reed (Tulare Western HS) won the 100 meters in 12.93, followed by Daoni Hodge Redd (Las Vegas, NV) in second at 13.20. Savanna Leas (Sanger HS) placed fifth (13.74) and Sadie Carpenter (Immanuel HS) sixth (13.76). In the 200 meters, Katalina Castillo (Corcoran HS) placed second in 26.16, while Daoni Hodge Redd (27.28), Carpenter (27.55), and Leas (27.96) added top-six finishes.
Castillo led the 400 meters with a first-place finish in 1:00.03, followed by Ava Rangel (Sanger HS) in second (1:02.35) and Abigal Cutshall (Corcoran HS) in third (1:08.54).
In distance events, Gia Ortega (Mission Oak HS) placed fourth in the 800 meters (2:28.68) and fifth in the 1500 meters (5:05.17). Ana Landeros (Tulare Union HS) followed in sixth (5:11.39), with Trinity Ortega (Mission Oak HS) eighth (5:18.73), Lizzet Rodriguez (Porterville HS) 11th (5:23.79), Jizelle Loza (Redwood HS) 13th (5:25.48), and Vanessa Medina (Tulare Western HS) 15th (5:32.52).
In longer distances, Ortega placed fourth in the 5000 meters (20:23.38), followed by Rodriguez in fifth (20:27.40). Rodriguez also placed fourth in the 10,000 meters (44:09.66), with Medina eighth (47:01.98).
In the hurdles, Aavian Covington (Central East HS) won the 100m hurdles in 15.97. Kylie Thomas (North HS) placed third (17.19), Cutshall fourth (17.91), Delilah Ledesma (Mission Oak HS) fifth (20.07), and Leas sixth (20.70). In the 400m hurdles, Jizelle Loza placed fourth (1:19.47), Trinity Ortega fifth (1:21.09), and Ledesma sixth (1:25.06).
In the steeplechase, Loza placed third in 13:07.94, followed by Trinity Ortega in fourth (13:35.26) and Xitlallic Fieros (El Diamante HS) in sixth (17:37.89).
COS swept both relays, with the 4x100 team of Hodge Redd, Reed, Castillo, and Leas winning in 48.92. The 4x400 team of Rangel, Castillo, Hodge Redd, and Cutshall also took first in 4:11.43.
In the field events, Reed won the long jump with a mark of 5.70m, followed by Vivian Moore (Central HS) in second (5.33m) and Carpenter in third (5.31m). Castillo (4.95m), Ai-Lani Hunter (Central East HS) (4.80m), and Brooke Garcia (Sanger HS) (4.64m) completed a strong showing.
In the triple jump, Moore won with 11.23m, Reed placed second (11.21m), and Garcia added a fourth-place finish.
In the high jump, Cutshall won the event clearing 1.45m. Castillo, Hunter, and Garcia each cleared 1.35m to place third through fifth, while Leilani Smith (Florida) placed sixth (1.30m).
In the throws, Taylor McElree (Redwood HS) placed fourth in shot put (9.19m) and third in discus (33.41m). Maya McNeal (Porterville HS) placed fifth in shot put (9.17m) and fifth in discus (26.48m), while Mallary Gonzalez (Porterville HS) placed sixth in shot put (9.07m) and seventh in discus (22.76m). In the hammer throw, Gonzalez placed fourth (25.92m) and McNeal fifth (25.41m).
In the javelin, Castillo placed third (26.66m), followed by Cutshall in fourth (20.96m).
Men's Performances
The COS men took control of the meet by winning events early and continued their top performances.
In the sprints, Chase Dexter (Nevada) won the 100 meters in 11.00, followed by O'Bryan Flanigan Jr. (San Francisco) in second (11.09) and Mattis Aguilar (Hawaii) in fourth (11.14). Eduardo Sanchez (Dinuba HS) placed 15th (12.33).
In the 200 meters, Tevin Howerton (Nevada) won in 21.67, followed by Dexter in second (21.96) and Jo'siah Moon (Nevada) in third (22.19). Aguilar placed fifth (22.25), Flanigan Jr. ninth (22.52), and Sanchez 16th (23.92).
In the 400 meters, Moon placed second (49.56) and Howerton third (49.57), while Santino Ruiz (Mt. Whitney HS) placed 10th (55.62).
In distance, Julian Valdivia (Tulare Western HS) won both the 800 meters (1:57.42) and 1500 meters (4:06.62). Jacob Estrada (Monache HS) placed third in the 800 (1:59.77), followed by Marcos Soltero (Avenal HS) seventh (2:05.57), Matthew Cancio (Riverdale HS) 11th (2:11.79), and Daniel Julian Campos (Farmersville HS) 15th (2:17.41).
In the 1500, Ryan Herrera (Golden West HS) placed fourth (4:12.19), Soltero 10th (4:24.05), and Campos 11th (4:24.74). Herrera also placed fourth in the 5000 meters (16:07.39), with Enrique Ramirez (Tulare Western HS) 10th (17:31.45). In the 10,000 meters, Ramirez placed fourth (36:26.48) and Cancio seventh (40:26.83).
In the hurdles, Angel Sanchez (Dinuba HS) led a sweep of the 110m hurdles, winning in 15.11, followed by Reece Poscablo (Hawaii) in second (15.18) and Richard Crakes II (Nevada) in third (15.87). Justin Gerking (Lemoore HS) placed fourth (17.45), and Ruiz fifth (17.68). In the 400m hurdles, Poscablo won in 54.87, with Crakes II placing fourth (57.24), Sanchez fifth (57.32), and Gerking seventh (1:05.00).
In the steeplechase, Joel Panduro (Harmony Magnet Academy) placed seventh (11:39.89).
Sequoias swept both relays, with the 4x100 team of Dexter, Moon, Jaden Mora (Clovis HS), and Howerton winning in 41.61. The 4x400 team of Crakes II, Dexter, Moon, and Howerton also took first in 3:19.54.
In the jumps, Mattis Aguilar won the high jump clearing 1.90m, while Ruiz placed third (1.75m) and Crakes II fifth (1.65m).
In the pole vault, Ruiz won with 3.40m, followed by Jaime Benavides (Tulare Western HS) in second (2.75m), Gerking third (2.15m), and Crakes II fourth (1.80m).
In the long jump, Tyrik Jackson (Hanford West HS) won with 6.73m, followed by Nathan Herrera (Tulare Western HS) in third (6.49m), Isaiah Galaviz (Redwood HS) fifth (6.32m), Ryan Calo Alvarado (Monache HS) sixth (5.72m), and John Applewhite (Mt. Whitney HS) eighth (5.58m).
In the triple jump, Calo won (13.37m), Herrera placed third (12.97m), Applewhite fourth (12.76m), and Jackson eighth (12.12m).
In the throws, Ruben Rubio-Carbajal (Nevada) won both the shot put (14.32m) and discus (41.08m). Carlos Renteria (Orosi HS) placed sixth in shot put (10.58m) and second in discus (39.25m), while William Brinegar placed third in discus (37.93m). Israel Horta (Visalia Technical HS) placed seventh in shot put (10.34m) and eighth in discus (29.31m).
In the javelin, Gerking placed third (35.71m), Renteria fourth (35.47m), Ruiz sixth (33.49m), and Rubio-Carbajal tied for seventh (31.10m).
In the hammer throw, Rubio-Carbajal placed third (38.98m), Renteria fifth (33.82m), and Horta eighth (22.42m).
Next Up on the Track
College of the Sequoias will compete at the Northern California Regional Trials and Championships this Friday and Saturday at Santa Rosa Junior College as athletes continue their push toward state qualification.
