College of the Sequoias Baseball Earns CVC Honors, Advances to NorCal Regional
VISALIA, Calif. – College of the Sequoias baseball placed multiple student-athletes on the Central Valley Conference postseason teams and is set to compete in the 3C2A Northern California Regional First Round this weekend.
The Giants finished the regular season 20-20 overall and 14-10 in conference play, earning a second-place finish in the Central Valley Conference and the No. 3 seed in their regional pod.
CVC Awards Highlight Strong Season
Leading the way for College of the Sequoias was Walker Selley (Bermuda), who was named Central Valley Conference Gold Glove MVP while also earning First Team All-Conference honors at first base. Selley turned in one of the top all-around seasons in the conference, hitting .394 with 65 hits, 29 RBIs, and a .997 fielding percentage across 39 games.
Selley was also named to the CVC Gold Glove Team at first base, joined by Aiden Medina (Hoover HS), who earned the honor at shortstop.
Medina added to his postseason accolades with a First Team All-CVC selection as an infielder after batting .303 with 50 hits and 35 runs scored while anchoring the middle infield.
On the mound, Hudson Groh (Liberty HS) earned First Team honors after posting a 2.42 ERA in conference play with 34 strikeouts over 52 innings, while Chance Jasso (Redwood HS) was named First Team All-CVC as a relief pitcher, finishing with a 3.03 ERA and led the state with 8 saves.
The Giants also placed several players on the Second Team All-CVC list, including Kadyn Kirkley (Bakersfield Christian HS) at infielder, Solomon Anderson (British Columbia) and Caleb Catalano (San Francisco) in the outfield, Joshua Barajas (Central East HS) at designated hitter, and Jerod Smith (Fowler HS) as a pitcher.
NorCal Regional First Round Set
College of the Sequoias will compete in a three-team regional hosted by College of Marin, the No. 1 seed. Marin enters the postseason at 26-13 overall and 15-6 in the Bay Valley Conference, earning conference champion honors. The Mariners were ranked No. 26 in the state and was seeded No. 6 in Northern California for the region's playoffs.
Also in the regional is Santa Rosa Junior College, the No. 2 seed, which finished 28-11 overall and 15-9 in the Big 8 Conference. Santa Rosa placed third in conference and was ranked No. 9 in the state.
The Giants enter the postseason ranked No. 19 in Northern California and will look to build off a balanced season that saw the team hit .278 collectively with 394 hits while the pitching staff recorded 257 strikeouts.
"This group has competed all year and earned this opportunity," said Head Coach Scott Laird. "We've had contributions up and down the lineup and from our pitching staff, and now it's about playing our best baseball at the right time."
Postseason Outlook
With a mix of experienced hitters and a pitching staff that has shown depth throughout the season, College of the Sequoias will look to make a push in the regional round against a strong field.
The double-elimination format will feature three teams competing for a spot in the next round, with games taking place at College of Marin.
First pitch times and matchups will determine the Giants' path as they begin postseason play. The first game will be on Friday, May 1st at College of Marin, when the Giants take on Santa Rosa at 11:00 a.m.
