COS Baseball Falls to Taft, Fresno City
VISALIA, Calif. – College of the Sequoias dropped a pair of home games this week, falling to Taft on Monday before coming up short against Fresno City College on Tuesday at COS Baseball Field.
Taft 6, Sequoias 3
Taft struck first in the opening inning, but the Giants responded in the second as Adan Flores (Central East HS) delivered an RBI triple to tie the game.
The Cougars regained control in the third with a two-run home run to take a 3-1 lead. College of the Sequoias answered in the fifth, evening the score at 3-3 on a sacrifice fly from Walker Selley (Bermuda) and an RBI single by Xzavier Gonzalez (Immanuel HS).
The game shifted in the seventh when Taft plated three runs to regain the lead. The Giants were unable to respond late as Taft held on for the 6-3 final.
Flores and Jaxon Griffiths (Redwood HS) each recorded two hits to lead the offense, while Hudson Groh (Liberty-Madera HS) kept the Giants in the game with six innings of three-run work on the mound.
Fresno City College 11, Sequoias 4
On Tuesday, Fresno City College jumped out early and used a big middle stretch to separate from the Giants.
After Fresno City opened the scoring in the first, Sequoias answered in the second, taking advantage of defensive miscues to even the game. The two teams traded runs again in the fourth, with Jaxon Griffiths driving in a run to make it 2-2.
Fresno City broke the game open in the fifth with four runs to extend the lead.
The Giants pushed across two runs in the eighth, with Adan Flores and Griffiths each driving in runs, but were unable to close the gap.
Walker Selley and Joshua Barajas (Central East HS) each had multi-hit efforts, while Griffiths added two hits and an RBI.
On Deck
College of the Sequoias hits the road Friday for a 2 p.m. game at Reedley before returning home next week to host Coalinga on Monday and Porterville on Tuesday. Both games are scheduled for 2 p.m. as the Giants continue Central Valley Conference play.
