COS Women's Basketball Cruises Past Allan Hancock in 89-50 Home Victory

VISALIA, Calif. — College of the Sequoias Women's Basketball (6-5) delivered one a balanced and an efficient performance Tuesday night, rolling to an 89-50 victory over Allan Hancock College inside Porter Field House.
The Giants set the tone early, jumping out to a 22-9 lead after the first quarter and didn't look back. They shot 53.2% from the field for the game and knocked down 10 three-pointers while limiting the visiting Bulldogs to just 17 made field goals and forcing 27 turnovers. COS also turned those turnovers into 31 points and saw all 12 players contribute in the scoring column.
"We are starting to show our defensive intensity and how connected we can be on both ends," Head Coach Tyler Newton said. "We're playing the kind of basketball that fits our depth and versatility. It's always great to see everyone make an impact."
In the second quarter, the Giants outscored Hancock 22-16 behind outside shooting and full-court defense. COS finished the game with 18 steals and 22 assists as a team.
Kalysa Phanhsavang (McNair HS) and Sydney Chesnut (Nevada) were amongst the team leaders in points with 15 points each. Three others joined them in double digits, including Izabel Mendez (Caruthers HS) with 11 points, Olivia Gill (Pioneer HS) with 10 points, and Demi Boykin (Marysville HS) with another 10 points.
