Giants Announce 2026 Football Schedule Featuring Six 2025 Postseason Teams
Two-time defending state champion College of the San Mateo is the opening game opponent for College of the Sequoias' football team this fall.
COS will meet CSM on August 29, at 11 a.m. at Sequoias Stadium, to kick off the 2026 season.
Sequoias has likely drawn its toughest season opener in history. The Bulldogs were 12-1 a year ago, and have captured three state championships in the last four years—2025, 2024 and 2022. The other year (2023) they were state runner-ups.
The Giants have drawn another challenging schedule, with six opponents having played in post-season games a year ago. All five non-conference games are against Bay 6 Conference opponents.
New opponents this year are Diablo Valley, 10-2 a year ago and Northern California semi-finalists; and Laney (2-8).
The home schedule includes Laney, San Francisco (7-4), Monterey Peninsula (7-4) and Fresno (7-5).
All home games will be held at the on-campus Sequoias Stadium, with starting times of either 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.
Head Coach Matt Mendonca will return for his third season as head coach and 10th year on the Giant staff.
COS was 7-4 last season, including a 3-2 mark in conference games. It hosted the Pepsi-Sequoias Bowl against Foothill, which was the sixth consecutive championship season a Giant team had reached the post-season, a school record.
Sequoias finished the season ranked 16th in the state and seventh in Northern California.
