COS Faces Rugged Football Schedule
Three new opponents, a new addition to the conference and one of its strongest schedules in decades highlights College of the Sequoias' 2025 football schedule.
The Giants open their 10-game schedule August 30 at American River College in Sacramento, champions of the NorCal Conference in 2024, and will host City College of San Francisco September 6 at 11 a.m. in their home opener.
Sequoias will face eight teams (out of 10) who reached the post-season a year ago.
A new non-conference opponent will be San Jose, whom the Giants will be facing for the first time since 2005. And for another, College of the Redwoods of Eureka, it will be the first time in history the schools have played.
Both San Jose (9-2) and Redwoods (8-3) appeared in post-season bowl games in 2024 along with Butte (10-1), whom COS will host Sept. 27.
Four of the Giants' Valley Conference opponents were in the post-season a year ago, including Northern California runner up Modesto (9-3), Fresno (8-3) and Reedley (4-7).
New to the conference is Monterey Peninsula College, whom after finishing 11-0 and winning the American Division Bowl championship, elevated to tier 1 competition.
Several decades ago, COS and Monterey played non-conference games but the schools have not met since 1962.
Sequoias got off to a 6-2 start last year under coach Matt Mendonca, and finished the season 6-5. COS hosted the Pepsi/Sequoias Bowl football game, resumed for the first time since 1991, and fell to Sierra 38-35.
Still, it was the Giants' fifth consecutive year with a post-season game, tying a school record.
Home games will again be held in the 3,500-seat Sequoias Stadium on the COS campus.
