COS is set to face its stiffest test to date this season when it travels to face Shasta at 1 p.m. Oct. 5.
The Knights (4-0) are ranked 15th in the state in the JC Athletic Bureau Coaches Poll, and 11th by the California Community College Sports Information Association.
The Giants (3-1) are ranked Nos. 21 and 23, respectively, in the same polls. They moved up from No. 25 in the JCAB poll and were unranked last week by the CCCSIA.
COS and Shasta have two common opponents, with the Giants losing to Chabot (38-6) and beating Santa Rosa (23-20 in overtime), while the Knights topped both Chabot (26-3) and Santa Rosa (24-17).
Sergio Pena (Selma), Noah Wright (Lemoore) and Omar Meza (Monache) were named the Tachi-Yokut Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams players of the week, respectively, in the Giants' victory over Santa Rosa.
Pena caught the game-typing 9-yard touchdown pass with 30 seconds left in regulation, Wright had three tackles including 1.5 for losses and added a pass breakup, while Meza averaged 42 yards on his eight punts, four of which were downed inside the 20-yard line.
COS is idle on Oct. 12 and returns to action Oct. 19 when it opens Valley Conference play at Modesto.
The Giants' next home game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 26 against San Joaquin Delta. That game at the Giant Chevrolet and Cadillac Mineral King Bowl will serve as COS' homecoming.
