Alvarez commits to Midland
Sophomore quarterback Raul Alvarez (Redwood High) has signed a national letter of intent this past Wednesday to continue his academic and athletic career at Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska. Midland University competes in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) and is expected to go in and compete for the starting job right away. "Yes, he has the opportunity to go in and start" stated COS head coach Irv Pankey. "Raul really developed as a player here. He is bigger, stronger, and he expanded his knowledge of football here. We are excited for him that he has the opportunity to go and get his education paid and get a degree. We are happy for Raul and his family" said Pankey. Alvarez had several scholarship options this off season before deciding on Midland University. Alvarez holds the COS record for most passing yards in a single season with 2,446 which he threw for during the 2013 season.
