COS shows well in Modesto
Last Friday the Giants hit the road to compete in the MJC Pirate Invitational in Modesto held at Tuolumne River Regional Park.
The women started off the afternoon with an individual victory captured by Freshmen JoJo Zorn (Monache) coming across the line in 19:09 in the 5k course, besting her previous time at the Lou Vasquez Invitational by an impressive 24 seconds. Following Zorn was Sophomore Marlene Alcantar (Monache) who came in 3rd for the Giants in 20:43. Freshmen Sarah Reid (Exeter) and Ariana Jasso (Redwood) teamed up to take 5th place in 20:50 and 6th in 20:52 while Freshmen Monica Lopez (Kingsburg) ran a 21:14 for 11th place to secure the team victory with a score of 26 points.
The men's team performance shared similar triumphs to the women as freshmen Adam Gonzalez (Redwood) became COS's second individual winner for the day completing the four mile course in 21:48. Freshmen Rogelio Luviano (Tulare Union) and Abran Ayon (McFarland) placed 5th and 6th for the men, running 22:42 and 22:49. Rounding out the top five COS finishers were freshmen Matt Villareal (Sanger) (8th, 23:10) and Isaac Leal(Sanger) (9th, 23:20). With five COS runners in the top ten, the men were also able to capture the team title with a score of 29 points defeating NorCal teams De Anza (50) and Diablo Valley (78).
The Giants will be lacing up and toeing the line again this Friday afternoon, October 9th as Hartnell hosts the Toro Park Invitational in Salinas, Ca.
