Delta Outlasts the Giants
COS fell at home Saturday night to conference foe San Joaquin Delta College by a score of 38-42. In a game that saw six lead changes, it was a 32 yard pass for a touchdown by Delta College with 0:31 seconds left to play that put Delta ahead for good. "Our hats are off to Delta and their staff. They made one more play than we did right at the end that proved to be the difference. Our kids played tough and fought all the way until the end. They had a great diving catch in the back of the end zone to beat us" said COS head football coach Irv Pankey.
COS outgained Delta in rushing yards 270 to 142 and was lead by freshmen Jeremiah Johnson who rushed for 166 yards on 14 carries including one touchdown. Fellow freshmen Devon Calhoun scored two touchdowns and totaled 77 yards on 19 carries for the Giants.
COS now faces Laney College this Friday on the road in Oakland, Ca. with the game time slated for 7pm.
